Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our group sessions, schedules, and what to expect when you join our community.

For your first session, bring comfortable clothing that allows free movement. We provide mats, but you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer. A water bottle is essential to stay hydrated throughout the practice.

We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork and familiarize yourself with the studio space. Avoid eating heavy meals 2 hours before class. If you have any injuries or health concerns, please inform the instructor before the session begins.

Absolutely. Our group sessions welcome practitioners of all levels, including those with no prior experience. Each class includes modifications for different skill levels, allowing beginners to work at their own pace while more experienced participants can deepen their practice.

Our instructors provide clear demonstrations and verbal cues throughout the session. They circulate the room to offer individual adjustments and ensure proper alignment. Many beginners find the group environment supportive and motivating as they start their practice journey.

Our group sessions typically have between 8 and 15 participants. We maintain this size to ensure each person receives adequate attention from the instructor while still benefiting from the energy of practicing together.

This number allows the instructor to observe everyone's form and provide personalized adjustments when needed. During peak hours, some popular classes may reach maximum capacity, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your spot.

Standard group sessions run for 60 minutes. This duration includes a brief warm-up, the main practice sequence, and a final relaxation period. We also offer extended 90-minute sessions on weekends for those who want a more comprehensive practice.

The 60-minute format fits well into busy schedules while providing enough time to work through a complete sequence. Arriving on time ensures you don't miss the important warm-up phase that prepares your body for the practice ahead.

We strongly recommend booking in advance through our online system or by phone. This guarantees your spot and helps us manage class sizes effectively. Walk-ins are accepted if space is available, but popular time slots often fill up quickly.

Advance booking also allows us to prepare adequately for the number of participants. You can book up to 2 weeks ahead. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 4 hours before the session starts to avoid any cancellation fees.

We offer several styles throughout the week to accommodate different preferences and goals. Our schedule includes Hatha sessions focusing on foundational poses, Vinyasa flow classes that link breath with movement, and restorative sessions for deep relaxation.

Each style serves different purposes. Hatha builds strength and flexibility gradually, Vinyasa provides a more dynamic workout, and restorative practice helps with stress relief and recovery. Check our weekly schedule to find the style that matches your current needs and energy level.

Please inform your instructor about any injuries, surgeries, or physical limitations before the session begins. Our instructors are trained to provide modifications and alternative poses that accommodate various conditions while keeping you safe.

Common issues like lower back pain, knee problems, or shoulder restrictions can be managed with appropriate adjustments. However, if you have a serious medical condition or recent injury, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity. Your safety is our priority.

Our standard group sessions are designed for adults aged 16 and above. We welcome seniors and offer modifications suitable for different age groups and fitness levels. The practice can be adapted to meet the needs of older participants who may have reduced mobility or flexibility.

For younger participants aged 12-15, we recommend our specialized teen classes that address the unique needs of growing bodies. Children under 12 should attend our dedicated kids' programs, which use age-appropriate teaching methods and shorter session durations.

You can cancel or reschedule your booking up to 4 hours before the session start time without any penalty. Cancellations made within 4 hours of the session or no-shows will result in the loss of that class credit or a cancellation fee if you're on a pay-per-class basis.

This policy helps us manage class capacity and allows other participants to book available spots. You can cancel through our online booking system or by calling our studio. In case of emergencies or illness, please contact us directly to discuss your situation.

Yes, we offer several options to suit different practice frequencies. Single-session rates are available for occasional participants. We also have 5-class and 10-class packages that provide better value and remain valid for 3 months from purchase date.

For regular practitioners, our monthly unlimited membership offers the best value, allowing you to attend as many sessions as you like. All packages can be used for any of our group sessions across different styles and times. Contact us to discuss which option best fits your schedule and budget.

Group sessions provide a structured class format where you practice alongside others, creating a supportive community atmosphere. The instructor guides the entire group through a planned sequence, offering general adjustments and modifications. This format is more affordable and many find the group energy motivating.

Private instruction offers one-on-one attention with a personalized practice designed specifically for your goals, body type, and any limitations. While group sessions follow a set curriculum, private sessions adapt entirely to your needs. Both formats have value, and some practitioners combine them for optimal results.

Your first session will begin with a brief introduction where the instructor may ask about your experience level and any concerns. The class starts with breathing exercises and gentle warm-up movements to prepare your body. The instructor will demonstrate each pose and provide verbal cues throughout.

Don't worry about keeping up with everyone else or achieving perfect poses. Focus on your own practice and listen to your body. The instructor will offer modifications for challenging poses. The session ends with a relaxation period where you'll lie down and allow your body to integrate the practice. Most first-timers leave feeling energized yet calm.

For noticeable improvements in flexibility, strength, and stress management, we recommend attending 2-3 sessions per week. This frequency allows your body to adapt and progress while providing adequate recovery time between sessions. Consistency matters more than intensity when building a sustainable practice.

Beginners often notice improved sleep quality and reduced stress within the first few weeks. Physical changes like increased flexibility and strength typically become apparent after 4-6 weeks of regular practice. However, even attending once weekly provides benefits. The key is finding a schedule you can maintain long-term rather than practicing intensively for a short period.

About Zotete

Zotete began in 2016 when three certified instructors came together in a small studio at Lorong Chuan with a straightforward goal: to make group yoga accessible to everyone in Singapore. We started with just 8 students and two weekly sessions. Today, we conduct 24 classes per week with over 200 regular participants across different skill levels.

Zotete yoga group session

Our Foundation Story

The studio opened after our founders noticed a gap in Singapore's fitness landscape. While private sessions were abundant, quality group classes that fostered community remained scarce. We established Zotete at 12 Lorong Chuan, choosing a space with natural light and proper ventilation rather than a trendy location.

From day one, we focused on maintaining small class sizes—maximum 15 participants per session. This allows instructors to monitor form and provide corrections. Within the first year, we expanded from morning classes to include lunchtime and evening options to accommodate working professionals.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission: We provide structured group yoga instruction that builds strength, flexibility, and body awareness through consistent practice. Each session follows progressive sequences designed by instructors with combined 30+ years of teaching experience.

Our Vision: To establish a sustainable practice space where people return not because of marketing promises, but because they notice measurable improvements in their physical capabilities and stress management after regular attendance.

Core Values

Consistency Over Intensity

We structure classes for regular attendance rather than extreme sessions. Progress comes from showing up twice weekly for months, not from pushing beyond safe limits.

Evidence-Based Instruction

Our sequences incorporate findings from sports science and physiotherapy. We update techniques based on current research about joint health and muscle engagement.

Transparent Communication

We clearly state what yoga can and cannot do. Our instructors discuss realistic timelines for seeing results and explain the biomechanics behind each pose.

Experience & Expertise

Our six instructors hold certifications from Yoga Alliance (RYT 200 or RYT 500) and complete 20 hours of continuing education annually. Three team members have additional training in anatomy and injury prevention from Singapore Sports Medicine Centre.
